Good afternoon Franklin Guardians/Parents.

The snow seems to come and go but we know it will be back. We do get a bit of a smile when an older student says they are cold as we almost always have to say, “Let’s begin by zipping up your coat, putting on your hat or hood, and maybe, wear socks and boots next time.” Our messaging is that it is “not cool to be cold” so bundle up.

Reminders:

1. Please remind your children that they have to make a wise choice in clothing and being bundled up on colder days and that it is far more comfortable to be warm when outside on colder days.

2. Family Night is this coming Thursday from 6 to 7:30 pm. For those families, who may not be able to make it due to work or other commitments, we are hoping to have the garage sale and free clothing area open the next day during the day. Stay tuned for more on that. If you plan to go to the bake sale, there will be paper plates but if you are planning to buy items to bring home, please bring your own empty container as we will not have those available.

3. We are still asking for donations of gently used books, toys or clothing so please drop them off at the school at your convenience during this coming week.

4. Winter Break is fast approaching. It is from Monday December 26 to Friday January 6. There is no school during this time.

Updates:

1. There is a board meeting from 7 to 9 on Monday. Here is the link to join: https://www.youtube.com/c/WRDSBVideo/live

2. The Pod 3 Winter Hat Drive is back for 2022. Here is some information that you may have received or will receive.

“Several years ago a player for the Kitchener Rangers, Riley Damiani, scored a hat trick in a game and no one threw their hats on the ice. His mother started a social media campaign to collect winter hats to donate to those in need as a response. The students in Pod 3 accepted the challenge and collected 66 hats. The following year we collected 99! Such appropriate numbers for a hockey hat drive. This year we are collecting again and hoping to make it into the triple digits.” This challenge will occur on the day of December 8th and at Family night. If you have any new or gently used winter hats, please drop them off outside of room 10 in Pod 3.

Tip/Quote of the Week:

From the book, “The Kindness Advantage – Cultivating Compassionate and Connected Children”, we will be offering some insights from Dale Atkins, PhD and Amanda Salzhauer, MSW with a foreword by Michele Borba, EdD, various quotes or tips will be offered over the next few weeks.

“Children who are raised with the kindness advantage are happier, more connected, compassionate, and will have what they need to become change makers in their world.” (Michele Borba)
