Franklin Families:
As we approach the end of October, many students are thinking about Halloween. Some teachers have made special plans for Friday October 30, and have discussed these plans with their students. You may receive a note from your child’s teacher with more specific details. As our students mature and learn more about their world, they will acknowledge, discuss and learn about many cultural practices and beliefs. As with all holidays and cultural celebrations, we are all aware that there are many families that do not “celebrate” Halloween, and we are looking for ways to make these students feel included and respected. On Friday October 30, students may choose to wear black and orange clothes or a Halloween costume. Students are permitted to wear costumes for the entire day or part of the day, depending on the class plans; however, you may want to send a change of clothes for them to change into at one of the nutrition breaks. If you choose to have your child wear a costume, please remember that students are not to wear masks, or have any weapons (plastic swords, knives, guns, etc.) that are carried with them. Please keep them at home.
Some classes have also discussed treats. Please remember to consider healthy treat options and potentially dangerous food allergies if treats are part of the class plans.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
