Week of April 23rd, 2023 – Reminders and Updates

Good morning Franklin Families.

As we enter the last week of April, we want to remind you that there are still two solid months of school, and therefore, learning continues. The children are truly improving in various areas. Each child is different and therefore, on their own learning journey and so their growth can be in some or all of the following areas: academically, physically, socially or emotionally (how they self- regulate and manage big emotions). We are very proud of them and continue to move them forward.

Here are your reminders and updates for this week.

Reminders:

1. In celebration of its 50th Anniversary, the WRPS (Waterloo Regional Police Services) is hosting an art contest for children ages 4 to 10. Children are invited to submit a drawing of what policing means to them, for a chance to win a prize! Go to www.wrps.on.ca/en/50th-anniversary-art-contest-for-kids.aspx for more information and or a downloadable/printable sheet to use.The submission deadline is May 6, 2023. If you can’t send them in, feel free to have your child forward their artwork to the office and they will be submitted electronically for them.

2. Food Drive is going to be extended into this coming week. If you have any donations, feel free to drop them off or have your child bring the item(s) to school. Final donations will be accepted up until, and including, Wednesday.

3. Please remember that regular attendance and arriving at school on time are both extremely important skills as they carry over to future learning or future work. Being regularly absent or late, can cause gaps in academics, poor future work habits and difficulties with friendships. We want to see your children at school and on time as it benefits them. Please contact your child’s teacher or administration if your child is struggling to get to school so a plan can be developed to help them come to school each and every day.

4. 1. The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) SEA Assistive Technology Team is offering a three part learning series on using digital tools that can help to support your child in reading, writing, and vocabulary.
