December 3rd, 2023
Hello Franklin Families. It is hard to believe that we are officially into December and three weeks away from a two week break/holiday. Here are your reminders and updates for this week.
Reminders:
1. Please remember that schools will be closed over the winter holidays, Monday December 25th to Friday January 5th. Students will return to school on January 8th, 2024.
2. When your child/children come home with a peer concern, please remember to always hear all sides of a situation first as often, there is one side, the other side and the truth somewhere in the middle. Please reach out to teachers/staff for more information on conflicts or school situations that may have arisen.
Updates:
1. Lunch and Learn Sessions are continuing for December.

2.Tutoring support/ Homework Help is available at no cost for grade 3 to grade 12 students. Visit caminowellbeing.ca/tutoring for more information Camino is also looking for tutors to help grade 3 to grade 12 students for at least 2 hours a week. Tutors must be 16 years of age or older. For more information, contact Katie at kmcarthur@caminowellbeing.ca
3. If you have children who are in grade 4, 5 or 6 and who walks to school, we would love them to consider being a Trailblazer. A Trailblazer walks to school with a vest on so that they can be seen by others who are walking alone and would prefer to be part of a group. This is a great leadership opportunity where they learn about road safety, walking hazards, preferred routes, first aid and anti-bullying procedures. They would be rewarded with having leadership experience, gaining self-confidence and responsibility and being a positive role model for young students and getting their respect and admiration. Please speak to your walkers and if interested, have them see Mrs. Cotnam.
4. We are also looking for 2 to 5 parents who may want to help us with analyzing the traffic/congestion occurring in the area to help with creative solutions. Please reach out to Mrs. Cotnam, if you are interested. linda_cotnam@wrdsb.ca
4. Congratulations – 100% of our families are on School-Day. Should you want to get it linked to your email, so it goes right there, you need to check off – once in School-Day – that you are okay with receiving emails. So please check your user profile on SchoolDay to make sure your settings are correct to accept emails.
5. During the December 2023 holiday season, the system will be closed on December 27, 28 and 29, 2023, in addition to the statutory holidays of Christmas Day (December 25, 2023), Boxing Day (December 26, 2023), and New Year’s Day (January 1, 2024).
Quote of the Week:
“No child wants to get in trouble. We need to find out what they are communicating and needing, before reacting to the behaviour.” (L. Cotnam)
