December 10th, 2023
Good morning everyone.
Happy Sunday! As always, here are your reminders and updates. We do hope that you find these useful.
Reminders:
1. Please remember to call the school or email the attendance line if your child is not coming in due to illness, etc
2. Lunch and Learn continues this week.
Topic: Holidays Can Be Hard
When: December 13, 2023 from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m.
Where: Zoom link for Lunch & Learn app.zoom.us/wc/5441930058/join?fromPWA=1&pwd=bFBqMmY2L2VwMzlPVERwOEZGUXRhZz09
Meeting ID: 544 193 0058
Password: WRDSB
3. If you have children who are in grade 4, 5 or 6 and who walk to school, we would love them to consider being a Trailblazer. A Trailblazer walks to school with a vest on so that they can be seen by others who are walking alone and would prefer to be part of a group. This is a great leadership opportunity where they learn about road safety, walking hazards, preferred routes, first aid and anti-bullying procedures. They would be rewarded with having leadership experience, gaining self-confidence and responsibility and being a positive role model for younger students and getting their respect and admiration. Please speak to your walkers and if interested, have them see Mrs. Cotnam (linda_cotnam@wrdsb.ca).
4. We are also looking for 2 to 5 parents who may want to help us with analyzing the traffic/congestion occurring in the area to help with creative solutions. Please reach out to Mrs. Cotnam, if you are interested.
5. During the December 2023 holiday season, the system will be closed on December 27, 28 and 29, 2023, in addition to the statutory holidays of Christmas Day (December 25, 2023), Boxing Day (December 26, 2023), and New Year’s Day (January 1, 2024).
Updates:
1. This year, our Family Night is not occurring in December but we are hoping for February or March. No official confirmation as of yet on this.
2. Our little Ks are doing performances with their classes on Thursday Dec. 21st – details will come from the educators.
3. Other classes have chosen to do some different holiday events as well and all communication will go through the educators if applicable to you.
4. The Parent Involvement Committee of the WRDSB is seeking feedback for the 2024-2025 School Year Calendar. Please go to School-Day to access the link to the feedback form.
5. As we continue to try and decrease traffic in the area, a map via School-Day, will be provided that shows distances to walk to the school if you park on other streets. Please try out some of these areas as less traffic means the area is safer for children. Stay tuned for the map that will be forwarded.
6. We have lots of LOST and FOUND items that have been placed on a table by the gym. If your child has lost something, please come to the school to have a look. If you need to come in after school hours, please contact Linda (linda_cotnam@wrdsb.ca) to arrange a viewing time. Any unclaimed items will get donated on the last day before the start of the holidays.
7. If you are interested in donating to WRDSB nutrition programs, please visit: www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/95440?v2=true
8. In a week, on Monday Dec. 18, there is a board meeting from 7 to 9 pm if interested in attending. Here is the link: www.youtube.com/c/WRDSBVideo/live
9. We have some more clubs that have begun for various grades (grades often rotate) including Storytellers Club, Yoga Club, Kindness Club, Peacemakers Club via the direction of our Child and Youth Worker. These occur at Nutrition Breaks.
