Good morning Franklin Families,

Well, we made it to March and although the weather has definitely not been typical of Canadian winters, we are still in the winter season so who knows what we will still see/have.

Here are your reminders and updates for this week.

Reminders:

1. Students have one more week of school before their March Break begins. Then they will be off from March 11th to March 15th.

2. This will be Ms. Hutchison’s last week before becoming Temporary Principal at Manchester. She will be greatly missed at Franklin. (There are no current updates regarding who will be replacing her.)

Updates:

1. This past Tuesday, our JK to Grade 6 students attended an assembly on school bus safety. This program was brought to us by our transportation consortium, school board and Ministry of Education. The primary program (JK to grade 3) focussed on basic safety and they got to see/meet Buster, the robotic school bus. Our grade 4 to 6 students focussed on basic safety and behaviour but used a game show format.

2. SK parents/guardians, you should have already received information on vision screening from your children. If you do not want your child’s/childrens’ vision screened, you must opt out. Saying that, it is highly recommended as poor vision can impede learning and sometimes it is not easy to detect. Vision screening will be on Tuesday March 19th.

3. The Royal City Soccer Club, a registered non-profit community organization, is proud to host their 32nd annual grassroots summer day camps. The program is designed to promote personal development, team building and of course, FUN! Uniquely designed to offer a more soccer focused morning with a leisure swim with other organized activities in the afternoon. The program operates during all weeks in July and August for children aged 5 to 13. For more information or to register, visit royalsoccer.com or call 1-800-427-0536. (An approved e-flyer will be going out on School-Day).

4. The school received 250 dollars to Marchants Sports Equipment due to the Winter Walk Day that occurred earlier in February. Balls will be purchased with this money.

5. School Council has purchased two new tetherballs for the school yard and they have arrived. This is a great activity for our students/your children.

6. We thank Ms. Bell and Mr. Collins for coaching junior basketball teams over the last few months. The students have enjoyed the experience.

Quote of the Week:

“Respect is a learned behaviour just like any other, and children learn it best by imitation just like they do with other behaviours. Teach them respect by showing them respect and by respecting others in front of them.” (L.R. Knost)
