Good morning families.
We hope you are enjoying the weekend. Here are your reminders and updates for this week.

Reminders:

1. Family night is quickly approaching and we are still in need of bake sale donations. If you are willing to support our bake sale, please see the person to contact on School-Day.

2. Family Night is coming up this week. See School-Day for the various communications that have gone out.

3. There is no school tomorrow, Monday April 1st.

4. There is a PD Day on Wednesday April 10th. There will be no school for students that day. All Board-Operated Extended Day and Youth Development programs will be closed.

5. IMPORTANT – As board messaging states, ‘’On April 8, 2024, a solar eclipse will be visible in Waterloo Region. The Moon will start to pass in front of the Sun at 2:03 pm and at 3:18 pm, the Moon will obscure almost all of the Sun. The Moon will then continue to pass in front of the Sun until the solar eclipse ends at 4:30 pm. Between 3:03 pm and 3:33 pm, it will become noticeably darker, as if it were dawn or dusk. During this period of time, students may be more inclined to look at the Sun because it will not be as bright. However, looking at the Sun at any time, including during an eclipse, can cause serious eye damage.’’

Please note that as April 8th is a regular school day with regular dismissal times, Franklin will be undertaking some safety steps. There will be no outdoor recess at the second break, bus students will remain inside the school until busses arrive, curtains will be closed and staff will be educating students on the hazards of looking at the sun.

We are asking you to speak to your children, especially if they are walkers and bus students, as there has been some talk of, ‘’I am going to look at the sun to see what it looks like during an eclipse.’ As always, you as the guardian can pick up your children earlier if you feel it is in their best interest.

Updates:

1. Parents of grade 3 and 6 parents – Save the Dates.

Grade 3 EQAO will be on May 14 and 15th. Grade 6 EQAO will be on May 28 and 29th.
