Good morning everyone. It was great to see so many families visit their child’s/children’s classroom teacher(s) this past Thursday. We hope you had a lovely time. Here are your reminders and updates for this coming week.

Reminders:

1. Please remember to ensure that you are reviewing the first day package information sent out on School-Day. Hopefully it has been completed with the appropriate forms filled.

2. If your child has a Plan of Care, please ensure it has either been updated or filled in and returned to the school as soon as possible.

3. Thursday, September 19th is our first School Council meeting.

4. Please remember that all class placements are tentative until the end of September, even into early October.

5. If you are looking to support your child with technology, the SEA Assistive Technology Team of the WRDSB is offering a 3-part learning series on digital tools to help your child with reading and writing at home. See below for more information on this.

Updates:

1. Please ensure that your child has appropriate footwear for physical education. Please ensure that shoes have a sole with good traction and they are able to secure firmly to the foot. Please avoid shoes with a rocker sole, wheels, cleats, spikes, open toes, crocs, etc.If a pair of shoes does not meet the safety guidelines, a child will be asked to sit out.

2. Please remember if your child is running late for school, you must come to the main office, even if a class is outside. School starts at 9:20 am and supervision begins at 9:05 am each morning.

3. Please help us model safe walking by not jaywalking (use the crosswalk area) and by not walking across the parking lot as there are many cars and some may be exiting or moving.

4. The outdoor sign seems to not be working again but someone will be coming to fix it.

5. This past Monday, there was a grade 1/2 , 3/4, and 5/6 assembly for students. Assemblies went over the various expectations of the school – our rule, motto, behaviour expectations, bathroom expectations and walking safely through the halls.

6. ‘’Our focus on student safety remains a priority. To keep everyone safe, please be aware of school zone locations and follow the appropriate speed limit; use the school’s designated drop-off area, if available; and give yourself lots of time. For families driving their children to school, please observe parking signage and do not block sidewalks, crosswalks, driveways or fire routes. Creating safer roads takes all of us. Together, we will promote safe routes to school for students and families.’’

7. A note went out on School-Day regarding OT and PT services. It mentions that OTs and PTs may visit classrooms to suggest universal strategies to the teacher that can be used by students. If a child needs more intensive service, you will be contacted by your children’s teacher.

8. There are times when students get dysregulated in class and other students need to move to another location. They typically go to the library with their teachers to continue learning. As always, time and different strategies hopefully start to minimize dysregulated students. This full week has been challenging for some of our students but it is the first full week, and they are getting back into routine.

9. “With the new school year underway, the WRDSB recognizes that food insecurity is affecting our communities at unprecedented levels. In addition to local food banks and pantries, we wanted families to be aware of nutrition supports in place specifically for children and youth in Waterloo Region, both during and outside of school hours. For more information on these programs and how to receive them, please visit: Food Supports Available for WRDSB Students. https://www.wrdsb.ca/our-schools/health-and-wellness/nutrition-for-learning/
