Hello Franklin Families. We hope your weekend is going well and you are staying home. Here are your reminders and updates for this week.
Reminders:
1. Kindergarten Registration launches January 8, 2025 for any child born in 2020 and 2021 is eligible to attend Kindergarten in the 2025-26 school year

2. Artshine will have one last session at Franklin starting in the new year. Here is some information on it if you are interested. Artshine Winter 2 Registration will begin on Monday, December 9th and end on January 27th and the dates include: Feb. 6, 13, 20, 27, Mar. 6, 20, 27, and April 3. Parents can register and pay for the program through our website, https://www.artshine.ca/pages/lunchtime-and-after-school-programs

3. There is a board meeting on Monday December 16th from 7 to 9:30 pm. Here is the link if you would like to join virtually. https://www.youtube.com/c/WRDSBVideo/live
4. Primary students (grades 1 to 3) will be part of a seasonal concert on Wednesday December 18th starting at 12:30 pm (seating will begin at 12 pm) and Kindergarten students have a seasonal concert on December 19th starting at 3 pm (seating will begin at 2:30)
5. The last day of school before the holidays is Friday December 20th. (This is the last week before the holidays.) There is no school from Monday December 23rd and Friday January 3rd.
6. The Waterloo Region District School Board will be operating Winter Break Camps on January 2nd and 3rd 2025. Before & After school programs will resume normal operating hours 7am-school start and dismissal bell-6pm on January 6th.
7. Please remember to have a meeting spot for your children for after school if they are walkers. This is vital if they are bus students on buss cancelation days and you are bringing them to school. On that note, if busses are cancelled and you are able to bring them to school, please do so. Create a plan with your child if you’re going to meet at the office or at the doors that they’re normally at. Additionally, supervision outside is available from 9:05 until 9:20am. We do not have supervision prior to that time.
Updates:
1. A great big thank you to Mrs. Brenneman for organizing and running the bookfair. Thank you to the many volunteers who helped with this event. Without you, it would not have been possible.
Here are the Book Fair stats:
Total Sales: $9,000
$ raised for Franklin literacy resources: $2,000
Number of students who helped run the Fair: 106
Adult Volunteers: 16
Winner of the Family Event Draw: Beth Rm. 19
# of $10 vouchers given to students: 17
2. Thank you to Mr. Collins and Mrs. Wamsley who have organized and coached the volleyball teams for our older students over the last month and a half. This was a great opportunity for the students so we are truly grateful.
3. Student volleyball player also played against staff members this past week. They all did great.
4. Thank you to Mr. Kovac (our interim VP) who started a Bump Club for older students. Sadly, he only has one week left at Franklin. He has been a wonderful addition and has had a great impact.
5. Movie Night is coming back, thanks to School Council. The present date is January 30th (6-8pm). Should an alternate date due to inclement weather be needed, it will be February 13th (6-8pm).
