June 25th, 2023
Good morning Franklin Families. It is hard to believe that the school year for students has come down to three days. Here are your final reminders and updates for this school year. There will be a closing message Friday.
Reminders:
1. Please remember that school continues for your children until the end of Wednesday. Students will continue to have the structure they have had all year and engaging activities where they continue to learn so please continue to send them. School is not completed yet and teachers are still available if you need to contact them.
2. Should your child be ill or unable to make it, please call the attendance line or email. There has been a large influx of absences with no call or email going to the office and our front office staff is having to make many more calls that take away from year end tasks.
Updates:
1. We welcome Samantha Hutchinson to the Franklin School Community. She is the new incoming Vice-Principal who begins this coming school year.
2. Our students raised (online) $4723 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. $377 will come back to us for gym equipment! Thank you to Mrs. Firth and the teachers who helped coordinate this event.
3. Thank you to the many volunteers who have regularly come to Franklin Public to either help out with Food Programs, run programs like Strong Start to help our students, assist in events like Kindergarten Play/Fun Day or go on field trips, etc. We are truly grateful for your many contributions that make Franklin School and community exceptional.
4. Strong Start has asked that we share their free downloadable activity resources “that have been designed to be fun, engaging and interactive. The games and activities promote foundational early reading skills and provide simple ideas for families to support literacy development at home”. Here is the link for you: https://strongstart.ca/resources/families/athome/
5. Various activities have occurred for our students in the last few weeks, from field trips, Primary Fun Day, Kindergarten Play Day and Jump Rope for Heart, etc. It has been great seeing activities return and having a full year of school.
6. Food4Kids is collecting Peanut Butter for their annual Peanut Butter Drive. Anything that can be donated helps but if you prefer, want or can donate financially, please visit www.food4kidswr.ca/summer2023 or send an e-transfer to giving@food4kidswr.ca. They need to raise over $240,000 for the summer program
7. There is a special board meeting on Wednesday June 28th from 5 to 9:30 pm. Here is the link if you are interested in watching. https://www.youtube.com/c/WRDSBVideo/live
8. An updated class structure and school list will be provided at the end of the week…we have hired several staff recently.
