Good morning Franklin Families,
It is so hard to believe that we are already in June. There are 19 more school days for the children. Here are your reminders and updates for this week.

Reminders:
1. Grade 6 Parent Night for future Sunnyside Students. – Save the date: June 13th, 6:30-7:30pm.
2. Jump Rope for Heart will be occurring on June 4. Here is your school page link https://jumpropeforheart.crowdchange.ca/45669.
3. As we support Jump Rope for Heart as a Community, there is a learning to jump program you may be interested in for your child/children (both recreational and competitive jump programs) if they are between the ages of 7 and 12. For more information, email info@kwjumprope.ca
4. Funding for Net-Zero Grants Now Open – Funding for Net-Zero offers $2,500 – $15,000 grants to student-led projects across Canada, that reduce emissions at their schools (grades 6-12). For more information on these grants, and how to apply, please visit the Funding for Net-Zero page (https://nowfornetzero.org/funding/). Applications close on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
5. Franklin library closes on Friday June 14th for the year. All library books must be returned by this date and any outstanding fees paid by June 21st.
6. Bike to School Week 2024 will be taking place this week. This is a great opportunity to promote active transport to and from school.
Students can register at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfiKbfQW7WX9FmChL1aQyfmK_vuxqfUjwZIQLiA-F6DC0xYGQ/viewform and try to win Dairy Queen gift certificates.
Remember that “cycling to and from school is a great way for students to incorporate healthy and fun activities into their day. Cycling helps to:
Create a passion for fitness
Emphasize the important environmental impact of active transportation
Create opportunities for community building”
7. Reminder that for our new little ones coming into Kindergarten next year, we do have our Welcome to Franklin night for them and their caregivers on Thursday evening from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.
Updates:
1. We have submitted our numbers one more time. We are hopeful for another classroom. The next count date for numbers is in August.
2. Students will be learning up to the end of the month; this is a message that is regularly shared with staff as every day of learning counts, especially as there will be no school for two months. Please consider scheduling daily reading time with your children or playing math and literacy games (even made up ones) over the summer though. This helps with retaining new learnings from the year.
3. Monday June 10th, there is a Committee of the Whole Board meeting starting at 7 pm. Mark your calendars if interested. https://www.youtube.com/c/WRDSBVideo/live
4. Our outdoor sign needs a new motherboard and it was discussed at the last council meeting. We approved getting it fixed. We regret any inconvenience this is causing.
