Hello to our returning and new Franklin families! We are looking forward to a wonderful school year which will hopefully be our first FULL year in-person, in 3 years. As with any school year, glitches can occur and this year, due to the cyber attack, we will need and ask for your patience and flexibility as we wait for systems to be all back up and running.

Due to this scenario, families will not be able to access who their children will have as their teacher. As well, we have an abundance of new staff, so many will not be known to families or existing students. As always, do not worry as we’ve got this!

Our plan for the first day will involve multiple layers/steps. Firstly students in grades 1 to 6 need to be meeting on the main field beside the parking lot. (If it rains, students will be escorted/sent to the gymnasium). Teachers will have a sign with their name and class on it, e.g., Cotnam – 4A and will go from the youngest to the oldest so grade 1 will be closest to the fence by the staff parking lot and the oldest much farther down past the portables. Children will need to go to where they see their grade. Teachers, to ensure they have all of their students, will be calling out names and children will go to them. Our Kindergarten students will go to the back fenced-in area and teachers for K classes will be there.

Secondly, we will have information tables set up as grade 1/2, 3/4, and 5/6. Students or guardians may go to the table that indicates their child’s grade and there will be people there with class lists. There will also be an information table by the Kindergarten fenced-in area for the guardians of our Kindergarten students.

Thirdly, we will have  a couple of floaters with vests that will have full class lists as well that can be asked.

Fourthly, when teachers have their classlists and if they are able, they may reach out to you via Google Classroom, email, etc.

Finally, a teacher from last year, if they are able, may reach out to some as well, to let you know what class your child is in.

This is a huge collaborative endeavour to make the first day as smooth as possible and once again, we ask for patience, flexibility and as well, understanding.

Sincerely,

Linda Cotnam (Principal) and Jan Hansen (Vice-Principal)
