Dear Families/Guardians,

Welcome to the 2022-23 school year! For those who are unfamiliar with how we communicate from the office/administrators, we typically send out all-school reminders and updates via School-Day every Sunday. If you know someone who is not on School-Day, please encourage them to sign up. Until School-Day is fully functioning, the school website will be used as well for regular communication and the reminders/updates.

So, as we officially begin the year with hope, patience, flexibility and kindness, here are your reminders and updates.

Reminders:

1. School starts this coming Tuesday, September 6th, at 9:20 am. Those educators who are on supervision duty begin at 9:05 am. Please remember that if your child is a walker and they arrive before 9:05 am, there is NO supervision.

2. Please remember to check the bussing information if your child takes a bus to ensure it is running. Remember that there may be delays but it is still essential that students are at their bus location about 10 minutes prior to pick up. Some busses will not be running for various reasons. Please check https://www.stswr.ca/ to ensure that your child’s bus is running.

3. As was posted on the school website, this Thursday from 6:30 to 8 pm is our Meet the Teacher evening. If you are unable to attend, phone calls, emails, etc. will be other ways to make a connection.

4. Please remember that the parking lot that faces the school/park field is for staff parking only, except for those who have the appropriate decal due to a disability or medical concern. Please either use the parking spaces facing the school at the church next door, use Bradley St. or other nearby streets and walk to the school area, or have your children walk or bike. Also, please remember that our parking lot attendant is doing her job when she reroutes you or asks you to move.

5. For the first day, your child needs their lunch with a lunch and snacks, a backpack or some sort of bag to transport what they need to and from home, indoor shoes if you have them already, a reusable water bottle if possible and for our younger students (K students), a change of clothing. All supplies are provided by the school.

6. If your child has a life threatening condition, such as food allergy, please ensure you have your child bring in a note  for the teacher so that they are aware as soon as they have your child in their class. Existing Plan of Cares will be updated by parents and are in the office, but we do not have any for our newcomers, please ensure the teacher knows on Day 1 (Tuesday Sept. 6th).

Updates:

1. Most staff will be wearing vests for easy identification. There will be three tables (information tables) set up between the portables and the grass field area so if you need to know who your child’s teacher is please go to the table with your child’s grade….. 1 and 2, 3 and 4 or 5 and 6. There will also be a table at the Kindergarten fenced area to assist with this.

2. Kindergarten families, there will be the Acorn the squirrel cut-out by the K area should you want a picture with Acorn and your child. Remember to use #ReadyforKindie if posting.

Quote of the Week (this one is for all of our students that are returning):

“Don’t try hard to fit in, and certainly don’t try hard to be different… just try hard to be you.” (Zendaya)
